WaltherPark adopts GBC Italia's "Taxonomy Check"

The urban regeneration complex in Bolzano is the first in Italy to verify alignment with the EU Taxonomy for sustainable investments, paving the way for green finance.
WaltherPark SpA has officially adopted the "Taxonomy Check" developed by GBC Italia (Green Building Council Italia), marking the first time in Italy that a project of this scale and complexity has voluntarily submitted to compliance verification with the European Taxonomy for Sustainable Investments . This structured and documented process was applied in a detailed manner, consistent with the project's complex architecture.
WaltherPark, an international urban regeneration initiative in the heart of Bolzano, represents the most significant real estate development in the South Tyrolean capital. The complex includes a shopping mall, 110 residential units, a 114-room hotel, offices, a three-level underground parking garage, and a mobility system that includes a tunnel for through traffic and the pedestrianization of Viale Stazione (Via Alto Adige remains a restricted traffic zone). The entire project is pursuing LEED Gold certification, confirming a performance-based and measurable approach.
The decision to adopt the Taxonomy Check is strategic and aims to objectively assess the project's environmental performance from a European perspective, a crucial element for engaging with investors and green finance.
" We are very pleased that, thanks to the collaboration with GBC and Habitech, the sustainability of the WaltherPark project can be objectively confirmed at European level." said Thibault Chavanat, President of WaltherPark SpA. The President underlined how the choice allows to transform the ambitions of the project into "verifiable evidence useful for due diligence and discussions with finance ." The goal is to elevate WaltherPark to a reference project: " We are proud that WaltherPark can become a reference project in this field ."
The EU Taxonomy is the tool that provides uniform environmental criteria for the financing of investments by builders, planners, and institutions. GBC Italia's Taxonomy Check fits into this framework, providing a detailed report on the quality of reporting data .
The adoption of this methodology provides international operators with a common basis for evaluating sustainable assets in various markets. Marco Caffi, Director of Green Building Council Italia, explained the value of the service : " GBC Italia's Taxonomy Check is the national transposition of a methodology shared with the European Green Building Council network, ensuring a solid and shared interpretation of the European Taxonomy criteria. This allows international investors to have, in the various countries where they operate, a verification service based on a common approach ."
WaltherPark's initiative, carried out in collaboration with GBC Italia and Habitech, sets an important precedent in Italy, certifying for the first time the compatibility of a large-scale real estate project with the strict criteria of the EU Taxonomy.
